“Women’s Health: Past, Present, and Future” – Dr. Vivian Pinn Lecture and Reception
On October 26, 2011, UCLA will host Dr. Vivian Pinn, the former Associate Director of the National Institutes of Health Office on Research on Women's Health. Her lecture on women's health will take place at the UCLA Neuroscience Research Building from 12-1:00 pm, and will be followed by a reception to honor her retirement from 1-2:30 pm. National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics Meeting
This national committee advises the Department of Health and Human Services Data Council on health data, statistics, privacy, national health information policy and strategies to best address these issues. Dr. Mays was appointed by the House of Representatives to be a member of the Full Committee, Populations Subcommittee and Privacy and Confidentiality Subcommittee.

The NPA is a public-private initiative that seeks to mobilize a nationwide, comprehensive, community-driven, and sustained approach to combating health disparities and to move the nation toward achieving health equity. Dr. Mays is an appointed member of the Region IX Health Equity Council.

Geographic Information Systems Training Workshop
Learn how to turn data into visual maps, using the most widely available desktop system! This second laboratory session provides hands-on training to familiarize participants with the basics of ESRI's core mapping software --ArcMap. Students will learn more about the fundamental principles of GIS through applied instruction on managing, processing and interpreting spatial data. Specifically, students will learn the basics of ArcMap, create maps based on GIS data provided by the instructor, and perform spatial overlays using statistical data.
